Clinical Observation of Chest Trauma 52 Cases

Abstract

|
Clinical observation and its review on chest trauma were carried out. The total number of cases were 52 and they were admitted to the Dept. of General Surgery, Seoul Red Cross Hospital from Aug. 1962- to Sept. 1963. (11 cases of penetrating and 41 cases of non-penetrating injuries)
Among the 41 cases of non-penetrating injuries, 29 patients were caused by traffic accident, whereas 8 cases from falling down.
The principles of initial management of chest trauma were conservative method, and then only 3 cases of open thoracotomy were carried out as a life saving measure. Mortality rate of our cases was approximately 15%.
